Personal Statement: "Ephemera"
We live in a world of debris. On every sidewalk, each stretch of street or chunk of land, scraps and remnants of our daily lives collect. Litter, chunks of posters and advertisements become piled up, blown around, tread on. Constantly surrounded by these seemingly mundane objects, we lose the ability to view them aesthetically; our eyes ignore or flit briefly, scanning only for literal information. But they are beautiful, these discarded papers and objects. With Ephemera, I have attached found objects to canvas and expanded upon their patterns and content. Re-contextualized, the object’s features and design becomes more important than its original function.
