Premonition

Personal Statement: Premonition
Each generation has fears that seem more impressive, more dangerous, more imminent than those of generations before.
My parents hid under a desk for Cold War drills. I hid to practice for mass shootings.
It is human to experience fear for our future, individually and beyond. We fear for our environment, we fear for our dreams, we fear for those we love. And in this thread of fear, in our sense of what may come, we are all connected. Our anxiety may be acute, but it is also translatable.
“Premonition” is an act of translation.
We can see our own fear in theirs, hidden within the snapshots of their lives. Impassive faces and casual smiles clash against discomfiting situations. Within each simple moment is a hint of something much larger, something looming--the impending change.
